Leverich Canyon Trailhead

Bozeman is surrounded by massive mountains, and the riding reflects the topography. The Bridger Range to the east is steep and limestone-dominated, featuring grueling climbs and fast, technical descents. The Gallatin Range to the south offers deep backcountry riding, with long, committing loops through dense grizzly habitat.

The riding here is generally steep and physically demanding. Trails like Leverich Canyon offer a purpose-built, directional descent close to town, while routes like the Bangtail Divide provide 24 miles of high-ridge endurance riding. The trails are managed by the US Forest Service, and access is free. Bear spray is considered mandatory equipment on all Bozeman-area trails.

Must-Ride Trail: The Bangtail Divide is a 24-mile intermediate/advanced epic that traverses the ridge line with spectacular views of the Crazy Mountains and the Bridgers.
