Mile Creek Trailhead
Tucked into the extreme southwestern corner of the state, right on the border of Yellowstone National Park and Idaho, the Lionhead area offers some of the most remote and spectacular high-alpine riding in the country.
The trails here, including Mile Creek and Sheep Lake, are big, backcountry epics. You will face massive climbs, hike-a-bike sections, and technical descents through pristine alpine environments. This is grizzly country, and the weather can change violently at any time of year. Riders must be entirely self-sufficient. The trails are managed by the US Forest Service, and access is free.
Must-Ride Trail: The Mile Creek to Sheep Lake route is a 27-mile backcountry epic with over 5,000 feet of climbing, offering an unforgettable and exhausting day in the mountains.
