Choteau Area
The Rocky Mountain Front is where the Great Plains smash violently into the Rocky Mountains. It is a landscape of sheer limestone reefs, deep canyons, and ferocious winds. The riding here is concentrated on the eastern approaches to the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex.
While bicycles are strictly prohibited inside the Wilderness boundary, the trails and roads leading up to it offer spectacular, demanding riding. Routes up the Sun River Canyon and the trails traversing Sawtooth Ridge provide massive views of the plains to the east and the unbroken wilderness to the west. The terrain is rocky, steep, and highly exposed to the weather. This is prime grizzly habitat, and riders must be hyper-vigilant.
Must-Ride Trail: The trails accessing the South Fork of the Teton River offer brutal climbs and raw, technical descents on the very edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness.
