Glendive sits between the Yellowstone River and the badlands of Makoshika State Park. The Hell Creek Formation here consists of freshwater clays and sandstones from ancient rivers and floodplains. The Frontier Gateway Museum features "Margie," a full-size cast of a Struthiomimus found nearby in the early 1990s. The area is also famous for producing the largest Triceratops skull ever discovered, nicknamed "Dragon King."
Visitor Access
The museum is open daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Admission is free, supported entirely by donations. The museum complex includes several historic buildings and outdoor exhibits, making it a perfect starting point before heading south into the badlands of Makoshika State Park.
