A legendary ice route located just across the border in Yellowstone National Park, but traditionally accessed by Montana climbers. The approach is arduous, requiring avalanche knowledge and route finding skills. The climb itself is a classic WI5, offering steep, sustained climbing on excellent ice.
Ice climbing is legal in Yellowstone National Park, except in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Many routes are in avalanche-prone gullies; Hydromonster is an exception in a relatively safe location.
