Backroads planner FAQs
How many scenic corridors does the Montana Backroads Planner cover?
The interactive map covers 13 curated scenic corridors across Montana, from Beartooth Highway to Glacier's Going-to-the-Sun corridor and eastern prairie routes.
How many points of interest appear on the map?
Each corridor shows up to the nearest 80 points of interest on the interactive map. Full corridor guides list 850+ outdoor stops across the state, including hot springs, campgrounds, hiking, and recreation.
What trip modes does the planner support?
Three modes: Scenic Drives, Guided Trails (history, geology & rockhounding, dinosaur, birding, and mountain biking), and Build a Route (choose towns and filter outdoor stops along a road-following drive).
Can I explore geology, dinosaur, birding, and mountain biking stops on the map?
Yes. Open Guided Trails and pick Geology & Rockhounding, the Montana Dinosaur Trail, Montana Birding, or Montana Mountain Biking—the same stop-list and shareable-link flow as history itineraries, with links back to each hub article.
Can I share a planned route?
Yes. The planner updates the URL with your mode, corridor or trail, filters, and town stops so you can copy the link and share it.
Is this official travel advice?
No. Treasure State's planner is informational for trip inspiration and route exploration. Always check current road conditions, seasonal closures, and local guidance before you drive.
